Research Study
New Dietary Intervention for Parkinson's Disease
On Hold
Parkinson's Disease, Complementary/ Alternative Medicine, Other Diet and Nutrition
This study aims to investigate the safety and feasibility of Mediterranean-ketogenic dietary interventions in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD). These dietary interventions are thought to be a safer alternative to the classical ketogenic diets, as it relates to the gut microbiome health in patients with PD.
Participants will adhere to a Mediterranean-ketogenic diet (MeDI-KD) and a Mediterranean diet supplemented with medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil (MeDi-MCT), each lasting for 8 weeks and separated by 8 weeks of returning to normal dietary habits (washout). Participants will be provided with meal plans and continuously interact with a registered dietician for guidance and support.
