Diabetes - Type 1, Other Endocrine System
This is a clinical trial for adults with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) with episodes of severe hypoglycemia & difficulty recognizing low blood sugar. The trial aims to learn more about the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of stem cell-derived islet infusion(s) in the treatment of people with diabetes by improving insulin independence & islet cell function. Participation will involve a 5-to-7-day hospitalization for the infusion and monitoring.
Volunteers will be given a thorough explanation of the trial & info about the study product (VX-880), & all questions will be answered. Those who consent to participate will then undergo a comprehensive screening process. Following screening, all eligible participants will receive a one-time infusion at Vancouver General Hospital and remain on daily oral medications.
