Research Study
Can a free community based exercise program reduce depression for women?
Closed Recruitment
Exercise and Physical Fitness, Depression, Postpartum Depression, Other Women’s Health
Even though exercise is recommended as a treatment, it is rarely offered to people experiencing depression. This study is interested in whether community-based exercise programming are effective for women. This study will also help us learn about how we can implement and integrate a physical activity program into mental health care.
You will be provided with a 3-month membership to Live Well Exercise Clinics (East Vancouver or Kerrisdale in the Lower Mainland) and invited to participate in 2 exercise sessions per week tailored to your needs and interests with the help of a certified exercise trainer. You will also participate in a phone or zoom call every two weeks with an exercise coach to discuss your progress. You will be asked to complete surveys online before and after the three months to examine changes in your mental health. If you enjoy the program, you will be able to extend your membership for another 3 months at a subsidized rate (50% coverage).
