Research Study
What can our genetics teach us about youth anxiety?
Currently Recruiting
Other Men’s Health , Other Mental Health , Anxiety, Other Women’s Health, Mental Health
To better understand the development of anxiety disorders among youth, we need to include larger samples of youth in current genetic research. We hope this genetics study will help identify genetic risks for anxiety disorders in youth and assess how much of this risk is shared between youth and adults. We will also explore whether youth with a higher or lower genetic risk respond differently to treatment and how to best support them.
After you express interest, you will be shown a link to fill out an online eligibility screening questionnaire. If you are eligible, a study team member will email you to arrange a time to meet with you and your parents to discuss consent. The GAYA study has 3 components: 1. Questionnaires: Participants will fill out 5 core questionnaires asking about demographic information and mental health. 2. App games: Participants will play two games on the GAYA app, which can be downloaded from the Apple or Google App Store. 3. Saliva sample: Participants will be sent a saliva DNA sample kit to their home or be invited to provide saliva samples at the BC Children's Hospital research site.
