Study Purpose

The purpose of the study is to test a new cognitive-behavioural couple therapy (CBCT) for individuals with distressing low sexual desire/arousal and their partners. Specifically, we want to learn whether couples receiving treatment (CBCT) for low sexual desire/arousal experience better sexual, relationship, and mental health outcomes compared to those who wait for symptoms of low sexual desire/arousal to resolve on their own while on a waitlist.

Details

This study is a randomized clinical trial. After confirming eligibility through our three-step screening process, eligible couples will be randomly assigned to one of two conditions, either the treatment (CBCT) condition or the waitlist control condition. Couples assigned to the therapy condition will receive 16 sessions of free CBCT, and complete surveys before, during, and after treatment. Couples randomized to the waitlist condition will complete the same surveys, and at the same frequency, as the CBCT condition, but without taking part in the therapy sessions. At the end of the study (10-11 months after randomization), waitlist couples will be offered CBCT free-of-charge.
